Not Another Podcast! Why the HELL Do We have One?

If you’re new around these parts you may not know that for the past year and a half I’ve been recording a podcast LIVE from Carmine & Hayworth during shop hours.

You may be asking , “WHY?!”. That would be a totally valid question!

I, for one, have always listened to podcasts and I will say the HIPSTER saying….. I listened to them before they were cool. :)

Podcasts really became a lifeline to people during the Covid 19 Shutdown in March of 2020 and without our normal social interactions the world turned to the next best thing!

Post-shutdown I had been diagnosed with ADHD, a diagnosis that is quickly becoming all too common for women who had been previously ignored. This diagnosis opened the curtains for me in an AHA! moment. So much so that I really felt the need to record how I was feeling especially as it pertained to me having a new small business.

Hang-ups I was having in my day-to-day operations and how I processed certain interactions were explained when my therapist could tell me that this was NORMAL for those with ADHD. I want to pass this feeling of enlightenment to everyone I could, which is how the very first episode of Conversations In A Vintage Shop came to be!

I never intended for the podcast to go on for this long or for anyone to listen to it for that matter, but here we are still ticking!

Part of what made me want to trade in an e-commerce only shop for a brick & mortar was the fact that I LOVE having conversations! Not just about vintage or fashion, but politics, social issues, daily life, etc. I firmly believe that a person should never stop learning and the many people I meet in the shop prove that! I really wanted this podcast to share the vast topics that are covered in the shop DAILY and to share those conversations with anyone who wants to listen!

Of course my favorite episode is Episode One of Season One, “Having ADHD As A Small Business Owner”, but the most listened to has been an episode where I talk about my feelings on Vintage and Size Inclusivity. I did another episode where I revisited that topic with a new lens. I was able to spread my view and message about these important conversations in the hope that it could make at least one person feel more empowered!

I don’t advertise or promote the podcast too much because it was never meant to be another “business”. I do it because I love it. Plain and simple.

Maybe one of these days YOU may enter the shop while I’m recording and our conversation could be used to help others?
