1920's Pale Pink Boudoir Cap with Silk Ruffles
This 1920's silk and lace Boudoir Cap is an extravagant example of "everything old is new again". "Night Caps" were a part of normal wear for men, women and children in the Victorian Era, but fell out of fashion throughout the Edwardian Era.
Into the 1920's, they came back into fashion for women to keep their curls intact during sleep and were now called "Boudoir Caps" because they were worn by women in the boudoir.
They became more elaborate with colored silk, lace, ruffles, ribbon, and more embellishments.
This piece was acquired from the estate of a woman who owned her own seamstress shop in New York City.
She was a master seamstress who left behind many pieces that show how exquisite these hand-done details are!
There will be a future post that goes into more details about this amazing woman and her collection!
I am not quite sure of the origin of this piece, but it looks similar to pieces made in Great Britain.
