CAROL BURNETT/ BOB MACKIE 1970s Pair of Gowns Worn on "The Carol Burnett Show"

Description courtesy of Julien's Auctions:

CBS, 1967-1978. A pair of black gowns with red sequins, worn by Carol Burnett and Vicki Lawrence on the classic variety show, were likely designed by Bob Mackie.

Bob Mackie was the in-house costumer for The Carol Burnett Show for the entirety of the show's run.

It has been estimated that he created up to 70 costumes per week for the show, totaling over 16,000 in its entirety!

I am currently in the process of doing scene matching with these two gowns, so I can find a screen grab of them in action!

Here are some fun tidbits about Bob Mackie:

He was employed as a sketch artist for Paramount in 1961 by the legendary Edith Head.

He even did the sketch for Jean Louis's infamous 1962 Marilyn Monroe JFK birthday dress!
